KDP and DKDP is routinely used for Q-switching applications from the UV out to about 1.1 um where absorption limits its use in active cavities, although it can be useful at longer wavelengths when a few percent of absorption can be tolerated.

KD*P based Pockels cells are routinely used for Q-switching applications from the 400 nm to about 1.1um. Most of commercial flash-lamp pumped Nd:YAG lasers and low repetition rate DPSS Nd:YAG lasers are equipped with KD*P based Pockels cell for laser cavity Q-switching.

Elector-optical KD*P crystals have high laser power resistant dielectric AR coatings. Additionally some series Pockels cells have AR coated windows for improved lifetime and protection in less user friendly environment.

DKDP is deuterated KDP (potassium dihydrogen phosphate) crystal, due to the use of deuterium replaced the hydrogen in the crystal, its 1064nm near the absorption peak deviation, making it more suitable than ordinary KDP in the application of neodymium laser laser deuterium, The DKDP half-wave voltage than the normal KDP has greatly reduced; its effective non-linear optical coefficient than the average KDP high. The phase transition temperature of DKDP crystal is decreased with the increase of deuterium content. For example, when the deuterium content is 99.8% and the phase transition temperature is only 2l ℃, the phase transition temperature is improved when the deuterium content is decreased, but the tetragonal phase DKDP Crystal performance is directly related to the deuterium content, deuterium content is higher, the better the crystal electro-optical performance, deuterium content is too low to lose the advantage of deuterated crystals. For these reasons, DKDP is a very good non-linear optical crystal and electro-optic crystal, has a high anti-light injury threshold and high nonlinear coefficient, is widely used in the production of electro-optical modulation, polarization, Q Devices, commonly used in the laboratory in the YAG laser. DKDP crystal can be used as an electro-optical Q switch used in pulsed lasers, it is the use of its linear electro-optical effect.
With the development of laser technology, DKDP crystal applications are increasingly widespread, such as electro-optical Q switch, laser communication and laser display in the vertical modulator and high-speed photography shutter and so on use DKDP crystal. So DKDP crystal in these high-tech areas accounted for an important position.
